Cave Freeze
Sonic whizzed by the unseen Amy in darkness to see the opening sealed off completely.
“I’ll just have to cut my way out of here then.” Sonic smirked as he spun into a ball but his quills could not penetrate whatever was blocking the cave.
Sonic plopped down in a corner of the dark cave and sat in silence. Amy on the other hand was going absolutely ballistic inside her head.
“What am I gonna do? What if Sonic finds me? How are we gonna get out?”
Amy tried to move as quietly as possible, hoping to find Sonic in the dark. Her pink and read shoes tip-toed
quietly through the cave.
“Squish!” Amy’s boots squeaked as she stepped through a puddle of melted snow.
Sonic jumped to his feet immediately.
“Who’s there?” He asked, with a hint of fear in his voice.
Amy froze. She didn’t know what to do.
Sonic began frantically dashing around the cave in the dark until he crashed into Amy, causing both of them
to collapse to the ground as one giant heap of hedgehog.
“Sonic?”
“Amy!”
They both untangled themselves and stood up in the dark. Amy fumbled through her sack and pulled out
a small flashlight and a lantern.
“Amy, what are you doing here?” Sonic was still in shock.
“I was following you of course. Someone’s got to look out for you.” She grinned.
Sonic smirked at her answer.
“Hey, if I didn’t follow you, you’d be stuck in here forever! And who brought the lantern and flashlight? Hmmm?”
“You did.” Sonic groaned.
Amy ignited the oil in the lantern and stood the flashlight up, giving them some light. She then pulled out
a few small blankets, a couple of pillows, and some instant drinks and food.
“Whatcha got there?” Sonic peered at the contents of her backpack.
“Just some basic camping stuff. Not much really. Ugh.” Amy shook her hair a little as she took off her jacket
that had gotten very wet from the melting snow that had gathered on it. “Do you think we could find any firewood
in here? This place seems pretty big.”
“I’ll go check.” Sonic dashed through the dark and returned with a large handful of twigs and branches.
Amy used some of the oil from the lantern and the flame to start a fire. She then made a cup of hot chocolate
for herself and Sonic.
“Thanks Amy.” Sonic drank it graciously. “You’re not half as a bad a cook as I thought you were.”
Amy gave him an angry face, but she knew he was just joking around.
“How are we gonna get out of here?” Amy sighed as she leaned against the sealed off opening of the cave.
“I don’t know.” Sonic said plainly. “Maybe Tails can come up with something. I hope. I guess until then,
all we can do is stay warm and wait.”
Amy took this cue to lay out a tiny blanket and pillow for each of them near the fire. Sonic laid down and rolled
on his side. Amy laid down too and tried to pull up half of her blanket over her, but it wasn’t working out very well.
“Chiiii..chiii....chii...” Her teeth chattered slightly as she could see her breath in front of her face in the dim light.
“Amy?” Sonic asked her plainly.
“I’m sorry Sonic. I’ll try to keep it d-d-down.” She chattered slightly.
A moment passed and Amy froze as she felt warmth touch her back.
“Is that any better?” Sonic whispered as he snuggled against Amy, covering them both with his blanket.
“Yea...” Amy was blown away as she felt Sonic wrap his arms around her, pulling them closer together.
They snuggled against each other for a while, trying to doze off to sleep when Amy suddenly loosened
Sonic’s grip and turned to face him.
“Sonic, why are you doing this?” Amy looked at him with a sad face.
“Because I.......care about you Amy. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Me either.” She brightened up.
Amy slipped her arms around his waist and they kissed each other lightly, hugging each other close.
