Lost Hearts
Prologue: It has been four long years since Sonic beat Dr. Robotnik for good when he blew up the Egg Carrier IV. While he held Amy´s hand and running for the exit, while hearing the main computers countdown to self-destruction, he had told Amy something she had been waiting to hear for a long time.
”Amy!” I shouted, while trying to avoid the chunks of metal falling from the celing.
”Sonic!” She shouted back while trying to catch her breath
I looked back and saw the fury of the explosion catching up and turned my head to Amy and shouted:
”In case we die I just want you to know, I love you, I have always loved you, I was just to scared to tell you! Forgive me…”
Amy looked back at me with her green emerald-eyes, filled with tears of pure happiness and she said:
”I know...”
The force of the explosion was incredible! The thick steel walls of the Egg Carrier were ripped apart and all
the robots inside were destroyed at an instant. On an island a hundred feet below the EC, Sonic and Amy
watched it crash into the ocean.
Sonic pulled me to ground just before the shockwave of the blast hit us and he held me tight. Despite the
situation I couldn´t help but feeling my heart take an extra beat, as I still couldn`t belive what he had told me.
After the shockwave had died away Sonic reached me his hand and pulled me up. We were standing really close
to eachother as he gazed into my eyes. ”Sonniku…” was all I got to say before he gave me a kiss with so much passion that I almost passed out
I opened my eyes again and my heart was pounding like crazy and my brain had difficoulties processing what
just happened, I actually kissed her, was all that I could think. I kissed Amy Rose! As I looked up I saw that she was staring in my eyes, not with suprisement, but with a look of passionate love.
”I love you, Amy. I truely do.” I told her
”I love you too, Sonic.” And with that she closed her eyes and we shared another passionate kiss.
End Prologue
18-year old Amy Rose was holding her true love, Sonic´s hand, as they walked towards the beach outside Station Square. It was a bright and sunny day (sorry if it sounds cliche) and Staion Square had been totally rebuilt since Perfect Chaos tried to destroy it a couple of years back. Amy still got chills down her spine thinking about it and Sonic prefered not to talk about it.
”Sonic!” Amy shouted and I got back to reality.
”What is it?” I asked, still a little starlted.
”Whats on your mind, Sonic? You´ve been acting strange today.” Amy said looking a little worried.
”I´m fine, it´s nothing.” I replied, allthough that wasn´t the case.
I put my hand in my pocket to reinsure myself that the little pink and blue box containing the ring still was there.
I had prepared this a long time and today it was THE day. After all those years of adventure I had never met
a challange that made me this nervous, my quills were dripping with sweat, not to mention my hands.
”Gone again.” Amy said as I once more went trough the event in my head.
”Yeah, sorry about that.” I grinned in a sheepish way while I thought: ”Now or never!”
I looked at Sonic and wondered what he was thinking about, I´ve never seen him so nervous, it´s almost as
if he was preparing for something. I had known Sonic long enough to know that he´s not the kind of guy that
gets anxious over nothing.
”Sonniku, why are we heading this way? The beach is down there.”
”There´s something I want to show you first, Amz.”
We went all the way to the cliff on the seaside of Staion Square, and I recognized the place right away.
This is where we had our first date, right here, this exact spot. I wonder why he brought me here?
I´m amazed that I didn´t pass out, my heart was pounding so hard. A new flood of sweat broke out all over me and I had trouble seeing straight, but I knew I had to do it. Right there before Amy I kneeled on the ground and took out the box… She put her hand over her mouth when she realized what I was doing.
”Amy Rose, will you marry me?” My heart was on the werge of bursting as I asked.
I couldn´t belive what was happening, ever since Sonic rescued me the first time I´ve been waiting and hoping
for this day and when it actually comes, I couldn´t be less prepared.
”Yes, yes I will! More than anything in the world!” I said while looking at the ring, a golden ring with a large
heart-shaped diamond, surrounded by smaller rubys. Even though I had known Sonic for a long time, I wasn´t expecting something as precious as this.
He slipped the ring on my finger and then we shared a kiss that was possibly even more passionate than our
first one on the island that day.
”Sonic, you have no idea what this means to me.”
As we were walking back to town we met Knuckels and Rouge who had been married for a year now. They were still acting like when they were still engaged, so full of love. Of course, Amy wasn´t slow on telling them what just happened, and I must say it was hard not to laugh at their reaction. Rouge congratulated Amy, while Knuckels still seemed to be in shock, he just stood there staring at me, but then he also snapped out of it and wished us the
best of luck.
”Honestly, I didn´t think you would have the guts for it” Knuckels admitted.
”Oh, like you were fearless when you asked.” Rouge teased him,
”As I recall you had problems just keeping your balance.”
Knuckels blushed a little, but then broke out in a big smile.
We said goodbye and proceeded to the beach. But then we heard someone scream and it was followed by a big explosion.
”What was that?” I asked, trying not to sound scared
”I don´t know.” Sonic said, ”But we better check it out!”
I nodded in agreement and we started running towards the big pillar of smoke. When we got there I couldn´t believe my eyes. It was utter chaos, people were screaming and running away, several cars had been blown
up and some buildings were about to crumble.
”Who would do such a thing?” I asked, but Sonic didn´t seem to hear me. His face was pale and he just stared
at one piont in the smoke.
Then he suddenly came back to life and shouted:
”Run Amy! Run and don´t turn around, get yourself outta here!”
”What is it---” My question was cut short as a creepy, psycotic laughter came from the smoke and a figure started to appear. At first I couldn´t really see what it was, but then I saw and a chill went down my spine. Walking towards us in dark blue armor body was someone we thought we had seen the last of years ago, yet he was there.
”Metal Sonic…” I heard Amy whisper as she stood there parylyzed.
”Long time, no see, Sonic” Metal said walking towards us.
”What, no smart jokes this time?” He said with his creepy artificial voice. ”I didn´t think you would be the kind of person that changes.”
”What do you want” I asked him, trying to supress my anger.
”What I want is none of your concern, rodent” He said, still laughing.
”Not that it would matter if you knew.” He continued,”You and your pathetic friends won´t be alive to see it.”
”If you harm so much as one hair---” I said trough clenched teeth.
”You´ll do what, rodent?” Metal said in a nonchalant tone. ”You can´t hurt my new uppgraded body. But IT can
hurt YOU!”
With that he picked up a laser rifle and fired. I was able to dodge his first three shots, but the fourth hit my left
leg, right below the knee, and I fell to the ground.
”Sonic!” I screamed as I ran towards him. I noticed that Metal whas also trying to get to Sonic. Filled with hatred
for the cruel machine I took my piko piko hammer and swung it at him. The big hammer hit Metal right in the
head, sending him flying into a brick wall, for the moment he was demobilised.
”Sonic, are you okay?” I asked him, trying not to cry.
”I´m okay, can´t run though.” He maneged to show me a little smile.
I was about to try to help him up when he suddenly yelled:
”Amy, look out, behind you!”
As I turned around I saw Metal, he hit Sonic down to the ground and then I felt cold metal fingers round my neck. He lifted me up a few feet and then he hurled me into the side of a car. I could taste blood in my mouth and
I could barely see straight, but I saw Metal lift sonic up, while he tried to choke him.
”This… isn´t… over… yet…” I said as I desperatly tried to force his fingers off my throat.
”But it will be in a matter of seconds.” Metal calmly said as he tightened his grip, sealing off any air to my lungs.
Black spots started dancing in front of my eyes and my conciunce started to slip away, when I heard her:
”BANZAI!!!” Amy cried while launching at Metal with her hammer. She hit her target and Metal´s arm fell to the ground while sparks flew from the hole in his side.
Metal stepped back to maintain the damage, while I took his, now lifeless hand off my neck. Of all those years
of knowing her, I have never seen her look that beautiful before. Perhaps it was because of the near-death-expierience, but I didn´t care. She was my Amy.
”Thanks, I owe you bigtime…” Sonic said to me while trying to catch his breath
”Sonic, I---” The pain made it impossible for me to say more as I felt a piercing claw going trough my shoulder.
I tried to scream but it wouldn´t come, I just felt the warm blood pulsating out of the wound.
After that everything seemed to be happening in slow-motion, Sonic got on his feet and pulled me off the claw
and went attacking Metal with full fury. Then, suddenly, he stopped and I saw the bloody claw sticking out trough Sonic´s back. This time my voice didn´t fail and I screamed out with all the fear and pain I had. Metal looked at Sonic a little while and then threw him into a wall. Then he turned around, activated his jets and took off.
I ran faster than I thougt was possible all the way to Sonic.
Sonic was lying in a heap when I reached him, his usually soft and blue body was covered in bruises and the big wound in his stomach was slowely but surely draining him of his last life-force. The wall that he hit had been splattered with blood and on the ground he lay lifeless, the great Sonic the Hedgehog, smashed like one of Eggman´s badnicks. I couldn´t stop crying as I took his head in my arms praying that he would survive.
”Please wake up Sonic, you can´t die, you just can´t…”
”cough” ”cough” ”…Amy…”
From the sound of his voice I could tell that he was in much pain and he strugeled to speak, even his voice was
just above a whisper.
”Sshhh… don´t speak, I´ll get help! I´ll---” His expression of pain made me silent
”Amy…cough… I love you… so much. Please… don´t forget me…”
”Don´t talk like that! You are going to be fine! I´ll just---” I was crying uncontrolably and I was so scared.
”…Don´t cry…cough… everything… happens for a… reason. If this is… how it´s supposed to end, then… there is nothing… to do.”
”I need you…” My voice had broken down to a whisper.
”…Amy… I love y---” His hands fell to the side and his eyes closed. At the same moment his heartbeat stopped
and no air was escaping his nose or mouth.
”Sonic… Sonic, don´t leave me…” Sonic, the love of my life, died right there in my arms…
Two days had past since Sonic´s death and it was now international news, Amy had smashed her TV when they didn´t show anything else and she wouldn´t see Knuckels, Rouge, Tails, not even Cream could get close to her.
She had locked the door to her appartment and would just sit in the dark, thinking. Her head told her what everyone else also said, that Sonic was dead and never to return, but her heart told her that it was impossible.
She was confused and now she felt as if she needed Sonic more than ever.
”Why, in Chaos name, why?!” I cried out in the empty appartment, then I started crying again.
For the past two days I hadn´t eaten almost anything and it was impossible to go to sleep and I still dreaded the day that was written in letter on my desk. Sonic´s funeral. Both Tails and Knuckels had offered to give me a ride but I gave them a negative answer, I didn´t want to see anybody, I just wanted to be left alone.
The day came and all Sonic´s friends had gathered, even Shadow had showed up. Nobody had ever seen Amy
this way, she had an expression of extreme pain and suffering, it looked as if her very soul was crying. The men carrying the coffin were closing in and when they were right infront of the grave something unexcpected happened.
Coming from the sky with his fusion-engine roaring was none other than…
”Metal!” Amy cried out and everybody watched him narrowing in on them.
A few feet away he stopped and glared at them without saying a word.
”How dare you show yourself here.” Shadow said, while staring at the robot whith a killer-look.
”Come one inch closer and I´ll rip you apart!” Knuckels shouted.
Amy just stared at the machine wich took Sonic´s life. Metal did not make a sound, he just stared. Then he activated his jet and roared towards them, but he didn´t attack. Instead he stole the coffin and blasted off into
the sky, soon he was out of reach. Amy just sat down and began to cry.
”Strange… what would Metal want from a dead body?” Shadow asked.
”I dunno, but whatever it is it can´t be good.” Tails implaid.
”I´ve Had Enough!!!” Everybody stared in surprisement on Amy. She had gone from sorrow itself to a state
of pure anger. Her emrald-green eyes were burning with hatred as she ran for the cars.
”Hey, she stole my car!” Tails shouted.
There was just one thought running trough my head when I took Tails car, the same thought that I yelled out loud:
”Revenge!” My mind was in a blurr, the only thing I knew was that I had to make that thing pay for what it had done.
I sighted Metal Sonic in the air and I was surprised that he didn´t go faster, he could go way faster than a car.
Then Metal noticed me and he ripped open the coffin and took out Sonic´s body. The coffin came crashing down and it was less than five feet away when it hit the ground, shattering into thousands of pieces.
Metal flew over a hill and then he seemed to be landing on the other side. Amy jumped out of the car and ran
as fast as she could to the spot where Metal landed. The others had followed her and when they found her they couldn´t belive their eyes. Metal had put Sonic´s body on the ground and was busy attaching cables to Sonic.
As they all watched, he attached the other end of the cables to himself. Then Knuckels yelled and they saw that
the master emerald was lying a few feet away from Metal, who then touched the emrald, which started to glow
as raw energy surged through Metal´s body and into Sonic.
Metal´s body was starting to glow red-hot from the ammount of energy that passed through him. As they all watched Sonic´s body started to rise up, towards the sky. He was glowing yellow, just like when he turns super, only that now it had another effect, his wounds started to heal. When the process was complete Sonic lay on the ground and Metal collapsed where he stood. Amy ran towards Sonic, tears running along her face as she ran,
when she looked at him he looked lifeless, but suddenly…
”Uuuhh…cough…A-amy?…”
She ran and jumped into his arms, burrowing her face in his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat and slow, regular breathing.
The others came running towards him, both shocked and happy. The only one that wasn´t shocked was
Shadow who went to Metal instead.
”Why did you do that?” he asked looking at the badly torched robot.
”What I can do…System failure…I can also undo…Main harddrive shutdown-click…” With those words, Metal seased to function.
Two months later Sonic and Amy got married in a tiny church outside Station Square. Just as Amy had wanted it,
a small wedding with only her closest friends.
”I love you, Amy Rose Hedgehog.”
”And I love you Sonic the Hedgehog”
