Sequel: It Doesn't Matter
Chapter 7, I Feel Like...I'm Not Strong Enough To Protect You
The doctor came out and led them to Amy's door.
Docter:" Knock before you enter. She might be asleep."
Sonic nodded and the docter walked away. Sonic took a deep breath and knocked on her door.
Amy:"(breathy voice) Come in."
Sonic's eyes fell as he heard her voice, all quiet and breathy. He opened her door and walked in, everybody following close behind him. Amy lay on the hospital bed with her eyes closed. She had her dress on but
underneath it, her side and back was wrapped in gauge. Her right arm and left leg was in an cast. Her face
was pale and she was running a fever. A heart monitor beeped beside her. Sonic's heart jumped as he saw her.
He held back his tears and walked over to her bed. Tails and Knuckles stood beside him. Amy opened her eyes
and looked at Sonic.
Amy:"(quiet) Sonic?"
Sonic:"*sniff* It's me Ame's....How ya doin?'"
Amy closed her eyes and exhaled.
Amy:" All...right...I guess..."
Sonic:" That's good..."
He stared deeply into her eyes as she looked at him too.
Amy:" I thought I was okay...but...my....side...it started bleeding again....and I lost a lot of blood...plus I had surgery on my back....they stitched it up...They're gonna take care of my side in a little bit...I'm also on medicine..."
Sonic held her hand and stroked her hair.
Sonic:" It's gonna be all right Ame's...I promise..."
Amy smiled and a tear fell from her eye.
Amy:"....*cry* I trust you..."
Charmy, Vector, and Mighty traded glances with one another. Espio stood in a corner with his eyes closed.
Charmy:"(whispering) Espio, Why is Sonic being so nice to Amy?"
Mighty:"(" ") Yeah, and what's with the promise thing?"
Vector:"(" ") Maybe he's just being nice to her because she's in pain. What do you think Espio?"
Espio, shrugged.
Tails:" So Ame's...when's your next surgery?"
Amy:"....In a couple hours...They wanted to let you all see me first..."
Knuckles:" Are you nervous?"
Amy:"(sarcastic) No Knuckles, I'm not nervous at all."
Knuckles laughed a little. Amy laughed but whimpered for it hurt when she laughed.
Sonic eye's saddened as she closed her eyes again trying not to cry from the pain.
Sonic:" Ame's....don't be nervous...it'll be okay....you're gonna come out just fine...*cry* okay?"
Amy nodded and smiled. Knuckles gathered everybody up in a circle.
Knuckles:" I think...we need to give Sonic and Amy some time alone..."
Charmy:" Why?! Is there something you know that we don't Knuckster?"
Knuckles:" NO! It's just that...it would make Amy's day if she got to spend time with her hero alone for once."
Everyone nodded and walked out of the room. Sonic looked at Knuckles with a puzzled face. Knuckles winked at Sonic and stepped out of the room. Sonic smiled a little and turned back to Amy. She sighed and put her hand on his cheek. A tear fell from Sonic's eye.
Sonic:" Ame's...I...I don't know what to say....You've got hurt three times in the last two months...Why is this happening to you?...I feel like it's my fault for letting all these things harm you....The first time...when you got stabbed in the leg by that alien...I didn't even notice until you screamed...The second time when the alien cut
your back....I wasn't fast enough...Now this...I hesitated.......I feel so stupid! I feel like....I'm not....I'm not
strong enough...to...protect you..."
More tears flowed from his eyes. Amy sat up slowly and embraced him. She whispered in his ear.
Amy:" Sonic...it's not your fault....it's Eggman's....don't beat yourself up...you should know things just happen....There are some things you can't control....I love you so much....I know you don't like these things
to happen to me...but they just do-"
Sonic:" Why?! Why do they have to happen to you?"
Amy:" They just do Sonic...I don't really care...as long as you're safe it doesn’t really matter to me-"
Sonic:" Well, it matters to me! I told you I wasn't gonna let you get hurt again! I...I...*his words shake*
I couldn't keep my promise..."
He cried on her shoulder quietly and Amy held him. She kissed him on the cheek and rubbed his back.
Sonic:" Your life is in grave danger Ame's...I don't know how to protect you anymore...I love you so much
and don't want you to die...but if Eggman knows-"
Amy put one finger on his mouth and he stopped talking.
Amy:" So what if he does. It doesn’t matter!"
Sonic sighed and she took her finger of his mouth. He embraced her and kissed her on the cheek. Then he
noticed his hands, they were covered in blood: Her blood. Sonic gasped and looked at her side. Amy looked
down too. The blood had soaked through the gauge and her dress.
Sonic:" Wait here! I'll go get your doctor!"
Sonic sped out of the room and down the hall. He came back a couple minutes later. Amy was laying down on
her bed sweating violently. The doctor got his nurse.
Docter:" We'll have to do her surgery now! If we don't she could bleed to death!"
The nurse nodded and placed Amy on a stretcher. Sonic panicked and ran to Amy's side.
Sonic:" It's gonna be all right Ame's! Don't worry!"
Docter:" You're gonna have to wait in the waiting room, sir. It might take a couple hours."
Sonic looked at Amy one more time and nodded. He ran back to the waiting room.
Sonic sat down in a chair and rested his face in his hands, forgetting his gloves were soaked with blood.
Knuckles:" What's wrong, Sonic?"
Tails:" Yeah, what happened in there?"
Sonic lifted his head up from his hands and looked at them.
Sonic:" Amy started bleeding again...badly! She has to have her surgery now..."
Knuckles and Tails stared at Sonic's cheek.
Sonic:" What?"
Tails:" Is that...blood?"
Sonic ran to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. He took his gloves off and threw them away then washed
his face. He walked back out into the lobby and went outside. He saw Shadow and M.S walking down the street
and decided to follow them. He listened to what they were saying.
M.S:" Did you find her?"
Shadow:" No. She wasn't at the house. But I'm not giving up! I'm gonna find Amy and make her fall in love
with
me rather Sonic likes it or not!"
M.S:" So, are you sure you love her? Or, do you just need someone to take Maria's place?"
Shadow:" I love her more than anything in the world! I want her! And I'm gonna get her!
Shadows words made Sonic feel like he was beat by bricks. He fell to the ground.
Sonic:"(thinking) This can't be happening..."
